CALGARY- Just days ahead of a ‘River Rave’, the Calgary Fire Department is warning people to stay off of Calgary’s high rivers.
A local rafting company has already taken 30 reservations from people needing rafts for the River Rave, which could see hundreds of people float down the river and even includes floating DJ sets.
Despite the hot weather drawing people to the water, people are still being encouraged to stay on dry land.
“If you’ve never done it and you’re questioning it, wait till August,” suggests Harry Daley from Lazy Day Raft Rentals. “It’s still beautiful, and the river’s a lot safer and slower at that time.”
Flow rates are listed as normal for this time of year, but fire officials say the murky water in the Bow River can disguise hidden hazards.
The Calgary Fire Department plans to comment further on the issue on Thursday.
